Yoga in Bed… a few minutes of stretching first thing or before lights out

If you have ever just wanted to sneak in a few poses early in the morning while still in bed… or if you missed your favorite yoga class and want to do a little stretching before lights out, here are some ideas;

Legs up the Wall Pose

If you suffer from insomnia, anxiety, shortness of breath, or jet lag, lie down on your bed with your legs up the wall so your body is in an “L” shape. Breathe deeply into your abdominals for a relaxing pose that you can do anytime you are in your bed. The energy shift you feel in this pose can change your perspective, move stuckness, or bring calmness.

What better than to stretch your whole body, especially your hips, legs, and arms after a great night’s sleep or before you hit the hay? Lying on your back, lift the soles of your feet towards the ceiling with toes pointing towards the side, bend your knees, and reach for the bottoms of your feet, the backs of your shins, or behind the knees. Breathe into any tension in your pelvis.

Easy Supine Twist

Before getting out of bed, do twists on each side to awaken your spine and kick-start energy for your day. Hug your knees into your chest while lying down on your comfy mattress, then release them to either side with your arms in a T. This pose is great if you want to feel grounded and release stress from the body at the end of an evening, or to help relieve pain anywhere in the body.
