Practical Uses for Still Meditation
What is meditation and what isn’t?
When you search online for meditation, you’ll see a lot of images on people sitting cross legged on the floor in Lotus Position. They all seem very peaceful and content as though all their problems and issues have mysteriously evaporated. If you imagine this is what meditation does, we want to address this once and for all… it doesn’t.
Meditation is a technique or a practice that allows us a better, clearer and more accurate look into ourselves. It is a time set aside to process things which need our attention, or a time to contemplate things going on in our lives… or a time when we relax our mind and body and recharge. But meditation doesn’t do away with problems, or negate issues or transport us immediately to a state of Nirvana.
Meditation is quite simply an activity where you consciously and intentionally sit and do nothing… at least outwardly. Through learning simple techniques to relax your body, check in with your mind (but not engage in thoughts) and experience where you are at emotionally, you realize there is an inner space that is particularly conducive to examining what is going on in your life with fresh perspective.
As you learn to visit this place inside yourself, you decide what to give your attention to. This might include examining your relationships and tuning in to where you want to invest more time and where you might want to limit your investment. It’s a perfect time to tune into your emotional life and sort through the ups and downs of your week consciously. Doing so is a proactive way to avoid falling into negative states of being because in this meditative space, you can see and feel things more clearly and make better decisions. So meditation is a great tool to become empowered in your life.
People use meditation to visualize things they want to manifest, gain insights into issues and long standing patterns of behavior they want to change, to gain inspiration for new projects and even to find God within as is the right of every person.
