Restorative Yin Yoga

Restorative Yin Yoga Classes Chicago

How do you feel on Mondays, in general?  We hope your answer is something like… “I feel excited because a new week is starting!” If so, great. Why not join us for a restorative/yin yoga class? If you get a little bummed on Mondays, let’s work on changing that! Let’s have some fun and get used to saying “I Heart Mondays” (sorry for the cliche).

Let’s begin by discussing what restorative yin yoga is: Restorative Yoga is a form of yoga for those who may be injured, stressed out (beyond the normal levels) or sick, who need a very gentle practice. Perhaps you are looking to regain the quality of life that you used to have, but has slipped away.  It involves the use of yoga props (blankets, bolsters, straps, blocks etc) to allow your body to feel totally supported. This style involves much longer holds of these gentle postures, postures often selected to address specific challenges; and deep mental relaxation.

Yin Yoga, as a style  is not exactly intended to be Restorative Yoga: It may include props and it does include long holds and mindfully reducing stress but it is not intended to heal broken bodies in the way that Restorative Yoga does. The main goal of Yin is to be maintaining or improving the current state of health and raising it to optimal levels. We could say that Restorative Yoga takes an unhealthy body and brings it back to normal, while Yin Yoga takes a normal healthy body and brings it up to optimum. Now aren’t you curious what a Restorative Yin Yoga class will be like?
